Cultural Competency and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Educational Resources

The Australasian College of Dermatologists is committed to developing the dermatology workforce to recognise and respond to the diverse needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and communities, with cultural sensitivity and clinical expertise.

We offer a number of learning opportunities for our Fellows, trainees, staff and other health professionals on intercultural competency, cultural safety and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. We also work with a range of organisations to bring together resources to build knowledge and skills to support the delivery of safe and culturally responsive healthcare.

Menzies School of Health Research – ‘Ask the Specialist’ Podcast

‘Ask the Specialist’ is a cultural education podcast which answers doctors’ questions about working with Aboriginal patients at Top End hospitals. Across seven (16 minute) episodes, questions range from the practical to cultural safety issues. 

HealthInfoNet Cultural Safety for Health Professionals

Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet’s Cultural Safety for Health Professionals portal aims to support teaching health professionals to critically reflect on the concept of cultural safety and to deliver safe, accessible and responsive healthcare that is free from racism. Links are provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and cultural safety resources, relating to the five capabilities of a refreshed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Curriculum Framework.
