ACD World Skin Health Day - 14 October 2019

The Australasian College of Dermatologists is celebrating its second World Skin Health Day on 14th October. World Skin Health Day aims to recognise and promote skin health around the world. This is a joint project of International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) and the International Society of Dermatology (ISD).

This year, the ACD’s World Skin Health Day highlights the challenges faced by patients to access appropriate dermatological care. ACD’s new report ‘More than skin deep: Skin diseases in Australia –  navigating the healthcare system’, examines the impact of chronic skin conditions from the patient perspective, their psychosocial impacts in the form of stigma and discrimination, and challenges with access.

We are also launching videos to inform our community about dermatologists and the conditions they treat, and to empower viewers to access specialist care when it is needed. The videos also focus on the projected dermatology workforce shortage, urging government to allocate more funding to train more dermatologists to improve timely access especially in rural and regional areas of Australia.
