Changes to private health insurance rules

Posted 6 years ago

The Australian Government has announced changes to the Private Health Insurance (Reforms) Amendment Rules 2018. The new Rules will allow insurers to implement the recent reforms to private health insurance legislation, introduced in March and July 2018.

As of April 2019, there will be a new four-tiered classification system for hospital products – Gold, Silver, Bronze and Basic. In addition, clinical categories have been amended to better streamline services covered within each tier and improve transparency for consumers. This has included changes to the Skin clinical category to now include plastic surgery that is medically necessary and relating to the treatment of a skin-related condition.
